Sam Makarewicz (muh-CARE-witz) is a third generation potato farmer raised in Elmira, MI. He runs our 500 acre farm in northern lower Michigan that grows several varieties of potatoes (including Yukon Golds), wheat and rye.
Of course, it wouldn't be a family farm if the family didn't join in. Granddaughter Samantha takes care of the horses, rabbits, ducks, lizard and other farm animals. Even into his 80's, Sam's father still drove the tractors and performed other daily activities on the farm. Everyone pitches in during harvesting time. I run the website.
The bulk of business comes from other farmers who buy potatoes to plant in their fields (seed potatoes), but Sam still hands picks the cream of the crop for table stock for locals. Contact Sam for sales info.
